President’s Letter – The State of Camp Liberty

Dear Friend of Veterans,

On behalf of Camp Liberty and our Veteran community, we thank you for your continued dedication to our mission to help our injured and disabled Veterans. Without your amazing support, our outdoor recreation programs would cease to function, as we rely entirely on contributions of sponsors, donors, and our all-volunteer force… people like you. We are proud to say that the foundation has been laid and we are building programs to support our veterans.

2015 was an amazing year with our primary objective of building our program center and storage building.  These buildings are projected to be fully operational in the spring of 2016. The Michigan based D&G Foundation, saw the need to help Camp Liberty and stepped up with a major financial donation.  Without that level of support along with another major donation from the Eisenhower Center, Camp Liberty would still be in early stages of development.  We would like to recognize Darlene Soave and George Verstraete of the D&G Foundation and John Cornack and Christine Myran of the Eisenhower Center for their support and for believing in the mission.

Our mission to facilitate successful outdoor adventures, which can aid in the rehabilitation for our veterans, now gets fully underway. The 2016 Crusader Gala raised money towards funding the nearly 3 dozen programs we are seeking to implement in 2016 – but it is far short of the total amount needed to implement all of the desired programs. Our outdoor and faith based programs will provide broad support towards helping to reintegrate our injured and disabled Veterans and their families back into their communities and workplace.

We are excited to announce that the Brain Injury Association of Michigan and the American Red Cross Veteran programs, as well as other organizations, have chosen Camp Liberty as a resource partner to host programs to assist our troops. We are all very excited about our early success, but we must continue to move forward by inviting new sponsors to invest in our mission. We wish to thank the hundreds of organizations in both the public and private sectors for their massive amount of help.

Please plan on attending one of our “Open House” events this year and see first-hand, our program facilities at Camp Liberty.  More details can be found on our website at www.camp-liberty.org. We are looking forward to showing off the crown jewel of Camp Liberty, the newly constructed Darlene Soave Lodge.

It has been a privilege being the President of Camp Liberty and I am grateful for being given this opportunity. I did not serve in the military myself, but fully understand the obligation we have as a society to care for those that have. Much like past President Jeremy Briggs said last year, I believe the goals achieved this year went above and beyond the expectations of everyone involved. We have an amazing team of volunteers and donors but need your help also. Please consider joining our amazing team of volunteers. I am excited about seeing what the future may bring.

Thank you for your past support of Camp Liberty, but now is the time to roll up our collective sleeves and find more volunteers and the funds needed to conduct all the programs our vets need so badly. We appreciate your support helping Camp Liberty to build a stronger Veteran community.

God bless,

Richard DeLisle,

President,  Camp Liberty Inc.
